Which kind of rental fits a month?
For most visitors, a month in Samoëns is a holiday let. Service Public defines a furnished tourist let as one rented by the day, the week or the month, for a short stay, with the same guest limited to 90 consecutive days per calendar year. The contract must be written, as for a week.
A bail mobilité is a different lease. It runs from one to ten months, cannot be renewed, and is open only to tenants in professional training, higher education, an apprenticeship, an internship, civic service, a job transfer or a temporary work assignment, with a document to prove it.
- Holiday let, same guest: 90 consecutive days maximum
- Bail mobilité length: 1 to 10 months, not renewable
- Deposit under a bail mobilité: not allowed
What changes with a bail mobilité
Under a bail mobilité, the landlord may not ask for a security deposit, but may ask for a guarantor. You must insure the property against rental risks such as fire and water damage, and you can leave at any time with one month's notice, given by registered letter or hand delivery against a receipt.
If your month is a holiday, not work or study, the holiday-let rules apply instead: a deposit is allowed, and cancellation depends on whether you paid arrhes or an acompte.
Where to look in Samoëns
Most Samoëns listings are priced by the week. For a month, contact owners directly and ask for a monthly rate, especially outside the school holidays when weeks are hard to fill. The tourist office's reservations service can help you search, and the visitor desk at 66 place de l'Office du Tourisme answers practical questions about the village.
Small gîtes suit a long stay for two to four people: L'Edelweiss, a Gîtes de France listing at Plampraz, sleeps four in two bedrooms over 65 m², with a garden, according to its listing.
Good to know: ask whether heating, electricity and the internet are included in a monthly rate, and how the meter is read at the end.
Questions to ask the owner
Before agreeing a month, ask about the internet connection if you will work, the parking space in winter, the laundry, a cleaning visit mid-stay and whether the tourist tax is included in the price. Get the answers in the written contract, not only in messages.
