What changes in November
The All Saints' school holidays end on Monday 2 November 2026 for every French zone. After that, Samoëns runs at village pace until the ski season: the Grand Massif opens the Samoëns lifts on Saturday 19 December 2026.
Plan for a village and valley stay rather than a mountain one. From 1 November, every car in Haute-Savoie needs four winter tyres marked 3PMSF or snow chains or socks on board for at least two driving wheels, so check a hire car before you collect it.
- Ski area: opens in Samoëns on 19 December 2026
- Tourist office, 2 to 29 November: Monday to Friday, 9 am to 1 pm; closed weekends and 11 November
- La Jaÿsinia from 1 November: daily, 10 am to 4.30 pm, free, closed in snow or ice
- Winter tyres or chains: required in Haute-Savoie from 1 November to 31 March
The tourist office: weekday mornings only
From 2 to 29 November 2026, the tourist office opens Monday to Friday from 9 am to 1 pm, according to its own page. It is closed at weekends and on Wednesday 11 November, a public holiday.
Arriving on a Saturday? Pick up information on the Friday before, or use the website. From 30 November, Saturday opening returns, from 9 am to noon and 2 pm to 6 pm.
La Jaÿsinia: the garden stays open
The alpine botanical garden above the village opens every day from 1 November to 30 April, from 10 am to 4.30 pm, and entry is free. Its paths climb a steep slope with 80 metres of height difference.
The garden closes to the public in bad weather, including snow, ice or strong wind. In November, check the sky before you set off and wear shoes with grip.
The media library: a weekday routine
The François-Désarnod media library keeps its usual timetable: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 4 pm to 6 pm, and Wednesday and Saturday mornings from 10 am to noon plus the afternoon. It is closed on Sundays and on 1 and 11 November.
It suits a rainy afternoon or a longer stay. Ask at the desk about borrowing as a visitor.
The Wednesday market, 11 November included
The weekly market takes place every Wednesday morning all year, on the square next to the tourist office. The town hall states that the food stalls on Place du Marché go ahead on public holidays too, so the market should be there on 11 November.
The non-food stalls on Place du Gros Tilleul and Avenue Cognacq-Jaÿ run from January to September only, according to the town hall. In November, come for fresh produce rather than browsing.
- Wednesday market (food stalls): held, including on public holidays
- Tourist office: closed
- Media library: closed
- La Jaÿsinia: open 10 am to 4.30 pm, weather permitting
